The Clangers are back in town and they are going to help YCR raise at least £ 20,000 in 2010 !
Louis Kennedy has been instrumental in helping Yorkshire Cancer Research enlist some out-of-this-world assistance to help in its fundraising efforts for 2010.

The childhood charms of the Clangers, created by the late Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin have firmly landed in Yorkshire in the form of cute collectables that will soon be seen throughout the region.
The Clangers were shown on the BBC between 1969 and 1972. The loveable, knitted family of stop-motion characters resembled anteaters dressed as Gladiators and made their home in a moon-like planet. They were experts in recycling all manner of useful materials – particularly bin lids, which served as protection against meteorites !
They are friendly and adventurous but also loving and supportive, projecting a positive message and with a lasting appeal across the generations. They also have a couple of celebrity supporters including Stephen Fry and Nick Park from Aardman Animation.
Head of Marketing and Fundraising for YCR said “These characters can help us communicate with both young and old alike; whether it is parents buying them as presents for children or as adults buying them as gifts for loved ones. And the added benefit is that the money raised from our “Carry A Clanger Appeal” will go directly into continuing to fund research into fighting cancer, here in Yorkshire. So perhaps in a small way we can all use a little of the Clangers’ resourcefulness in our fight against cancer.”
The charity’s 85th anniversary highlights the continued advances it has made into the fight against cancer in all its forms; which could not have been done without the continued support of the people of Yorkshire. YCR raised over £6million last year and funded more than £4million of world-class research in the region.
